Above The Noise

May 3, 2026    Paul Harris

In a world where our minds are constantly bombarded with notifications, news cycles, and endless streams of information, we face a profound spiritual challenge: learning to set our minds on things above rather than being consumed by earthly concerns. Drawing from Colossians 3:1-2, this message confronts the reality that our minds never stay empty for long—they're always being filled with something. The question isn't whether our minds will be full, but what will fill them. We're invited to consider the powerful contrast between Paul writing letters about peace and spiritual maturity while physically confined in prison, reminding us that our circumstances don't have to dictate our spiritual focus. The message walks us through practical wisdom from Philippians 4:4-7, showing us that anxiety isn't something we simply have to live with—we have the power of the resurrected Christ to speak His name over our fears, depression, and worry. We're challenged to recognize that so much of our emotional exhaustion comes from treating temporary things as ultimate things—our bank accounts, our damaged windshields, our career success, our political anxieties. When we lift our eyes above what is temporary and create intentional space for God's presence, we discover that transformation happens through the daily renewal of our minds. We cannot be conformed to the world's patterns and transformed by God simultaneously—these two realities cannot coexist. The invitation is beautifully simple yet profoundly challenging: be still, breathe, and set our minds on Him.
