I Just Wanna Be Loved

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

At the heart of this message lies a profound truth we often forget in our striving: we are deeply, unconditionally loved by God before we achieve anything. Drawing from Psalm 139 and the Red Clay Strays' song 'Want to Be Loved,' we're confronted with the universal cry of the human heart—'Can you tell me I'm worthy? Am I working hard enough?'—and discover that God's answer transcends all our performance. The sermon reveals how we've been conditioned to earn love through achievement, hustle, and climbing mountains of productivity, when God has already declared us His beloved. Like the prodigal son who rehearsed his unworthiness only to be met by a running father with robe, ring, and shoes, we're reminded that love is received, not earned. The gospel isn't about our ascent to God but His descent to us. Every question the song poses—Am I worthy? Am I important? Does anyone care?—finds its answer in Scripture: we are fearfully and wonderfully made, Christ's work is finished, and God promises never to leave or forsake us. This message challenges us to stop building our identity on the treadmill of achievement and instead rest in the truth that righteousness is received, not achieved, and that our worth was established at the cross, not in our accomplishments.
