Minding The Gap

Dec 14, 2025    Chris Foster

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

The space between promise and fulfillment—this is where our faith truly lives. Drawing from Matthew 2 and the story of the Holy Family's flight to Egypt, we're confronted with a jarring reality: God's most beautiful announcements often come with immediate opposition. Mary and Joseph went from angelic visitations and shepherd worship to becoming refugees fleeing genocide. This isn't a flaw in God's plan; it's the pattern of how kingdom work unfolds. The 'gap'—that formative space between what God promises and what we're currently experiencing—isn't wasted time. It's where God shapes who we're becoming. The enemy always attacks what's in its infancy, trying to destroy God's work before it matures. But here's the transformative truth: we get to choose how we walk through the gap. We mind our actions through immediate obedience, our attitudes by choosing gratitude over grumbling, our words by speaking life instead of death, and our hearts by guarding against bitterness. When expectations are anchored in God's character rather than our timelines, they sustain us. The gap will either shape us or harden us—and that choice is ours. When there's no wind in our sails, we start rowing. God's delays aren't denials; His timing is simply higher than ours.
